Rep Power: 295 | InTeRvIeWz!!! ~(¨`v´¨)~Shahrukh Khan~(¨`v´¨)~ Give me a role, I'll try to make it the best. That is my motto The boy who played around the alleys of middle-class Rajinder Nagar and attended theatre workshops at Mandi House is today so big that his entourage occupies almost an entire floor of Delhi's most exclusive hotel. Security personnel stand outside the Tanjavur suite at the Taj Mahal hotel. Inside, the world of Shah Rukh Khan plays out. Sitting in a chair that is a replica of a medieval throne, Shah Rukh spoke to THE WEEK about life at 40. Excerpts: At the [Delhi] Golf Course, you mentioned your stamina [or, rather, the lack of it] at least three times. Unless you've been running 10 km a day, you can't play professional sport with the kind of stamina you have. I realised it when I played a friendly cricket match in Amsterdam with not more than 20 overs. When I was in school or college, or even till five years ago, I played more regularly. Then my injury, surgery, everything happened. Running on the treadmill is one thing, but indulging in active sports is something I may not be able to do anymore. Maybe this [the cigarette he just lit up] could be the culprit. You have been talking about quitting. I have been cutting down. Normally you would find many cigarette butts here [pointing to the empty ashtray in front of him]. I smoke about 8 to 10 [a day]. Everyone thought you would protest the smoking ban and say it is illogical. But then you supported the ban saying it is nice. No. I don't think it is nice. It is stupid. If you ask me, all this talk about [banning] smoking, drinking, rape. But you said you will support it. I support it because it is the law. You decide I can't smoke in a film, I follow it. Not because I want to. I stop at the red light because it is the law. I would rather drive on the right side of the road, like in America, but you have to follow rules. We are all law- abiding, tax-paying citizens. It was strange this rule was supposed to come into effect from October last year when I was shooting for Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. I was supposed to [smoke] in a couple of scenes, but I said no, if this ban has come, we should not try to fight it. A lot of times it is of no importance to the character. But as I said in a joke, you can't make a film on Winston Churchill without his cigar in hand, can you? You often mention your son Aryan in interviews, events. But nothing about your daughter. Nobody asked me! I don't know why, but my friends [also] tell me that I never talk about my daughter. But girls tend to be more private. She is very shy. She is five and a half years old, her name is Suhana. I mean, I am shy too, so I let her be. She is with her friends most of the time, and I just try to be around. If somebody asks me, I will [just] say, she is beautiful! Tell us something about your next release, 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna'. I would say it is a great movie. It is [going to be] a big hit. Insha Allah. It has great actors—Amitabh, Abhishek, Rani, Preity, Kirron Kher—and all the right ingredients. You just said it is quite bold for Karan to have made a movie with such an unconventional theme. It is about relationships we don't boldly discuss. We don't know when we are releasing it, we have to wait till we finish our post- production. [But] it is a gripping film. I would say compared to any of Karan's earlier films, it is quite different. Is there some role you've been yearning to do? Maybe you should have asked me this question 7 or 8 years ago. But now, you give me a role, I'll try to make it the best. That's my motto. I mean, after 53 films, if I still haven't done a role I wanted to, maybe I am in the wrong profession. You've been a successful producer, actor. Is there something else you would like to try, say direction, or maybe singing? Oh no! Directors always try to make me sing! I sang for Josh, and a little bit for Don. Farhan [Akhtar, the director] made me do it. Normally, they try to make me sing, but when they hear me, they say, `Ahem, we'll drop the idea!'" You are reprising a classic like Don. What about comparisons with Amitabh Bachchan? People in their 50s, 60s and 70s might compare. But if we make it stylish and intellectual enough, maybe you might like it. Just like the Yash Chopra camp, the Bachchan camp, etc., there seems to be an SRK camp developing? I don't have a camp. I find it very demeaning and deriding like in school. Two boys would start their gang, then you would have your class gangs. I work with people like Amitabh Bachchan, Yash Chopra, Karan Johar, Nikhil Advani, Farah Khan, Aziz Mirza, Mani Ratnam. I don't see how I have... [a camp]. You are a brand ambassador for TAG Heur, and they are working on an SRK watch. What would be your idea of an SRK watch? I would like it to be like a retro design of TAG, but not like this [points at his Monaco 69 TAG], the first watch I brought. If we can get a very simple design in stainless or leather, I would be very happy. I still cherish my first TAG, I would say I have the best collection of TAG watches in the world. I've lost count, but I can wear [a different one] for everyday of......the year? Well, the next 10 years! Last edited by Safiyah; 06-03-2006 at 12:01 PM..

Rep Power: 295 | Hrithik: I’m the villain you’ll fall in love with ~(¨`v´¨)~[Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here to Register, Or Login in the login box above.] Hrithik: I’m the villain you’ll fall in love with "You know where I live?" he asks, when I stop him from giving me directions to Guman Villa, his suburban Mumbai home. Coming from any other star, that would have sounded incredulous, even fake. But it’s Hrithik Roshan. His modesty is paralleled only by Amitabh Bachchan’s, so you’ve got to believe him. With Krrish, we’ll finally get our own version of a Matrix-style Superman. In Dhoom 2, Roshan does the baddie act, sporting a pout and a bandanna. Later in the year, there’s Zoya Akhtar’s experimental love story and Ashutosh Gowariker’s historical Jodha Akbar. But before the professional deadlines, Roshan will become a father in March. Would you then admit that you get a little obsessive about work? I don’t have long-term goals and short-term plans to achieve. I take my work very seriously, but don’t take myself so seriously. I’ll do whatever I must to get it right if I’m excited by the film. You are very cautious. I’m instinctive. If there is a reason to hold on or mull over something, then it’s probably not calling out hard enough. Are you all set to play the mean villain in Dhoom 2? Yup, and don’t be surprised if you end up falling in love with the villain. Dhoom 2 is turning out to be a great experience. I’m quite happy to see a similar level of involvement on the Dhoom 2 sets as on my home productions. It looks like a good prospect for a good product. Is there competition between you and your Dhoom 2 co-star Abhishek Bachchan? Actors always get pitted against each other. I was pitted against Shah Rukh Khan. Personally, I think that’s great. I’m a firm believer in competition. Without that, human beings won’t really realise their potential. Competition is the one thing that makes others push you to excel. With Dhoom 2 and Jodha Akbar, you and Aishwarya Rai are being projected as the next big pair. Comment. I’ve just started working with Ash. She’s looking stunning. It’s very nice working with someone who is so beautiful, talented, down-to-earth and easy to talk to. Let’s hope we can live up to the expectations. Like Ash, do you want to work in a Hollywood film? My big dream is to take our cinema to a world platform. I don’t believe in the term crossover. Every film is a potential crossover. The idea of acting in a Jackie Chan film doesn’t excite me. That’s betrayal.

But I’m just happy to be financially and emotionally independent. I can do what I want. But I’m sad because my mom is in America with my brother. We’re an absolutely global family. One of us is always travelling. How much money does one need to live comfortably? No matter how rich, I still will eat an ordinary biscuit, not a gold one. I’m having fun with my work. I want to do films that excite me, that are progressive. But I also need time to myself. I don’t understand how others can do four films at the same time. I’ve done two. And I still haven’t had time to move into my new house though I got it one year ago. It’s still to be done up. Even your co-star Rani Mukherjee has got a new home? Has she managed to move into her new place? What are your final birthday thoughts..marriage? Marriage is a personal decision. I’ll take the plunge when the time is right. As of now, there’s nothing on the cards. Isn’t the time right now? No. Everything happens in its own time. Right now I’m working on my career. You’ve hardly been in the country this year. What’s up? Tell me about it. The travelling has taken a toll. All my friends have forgotten me. I can’t move into my new house in Bandra because the interior work is still pending. Don’t get me started. Most of all, it’s really tough to be away from India. What do you miss the most? This may sound clichéd, but I miss the chaat on the streets, the madness and the confusion, which is so uniquely us. I like the fact that I can drop by unannounced at my friends’ places and they will be good to me. But mostly, I miss my doggie, Junior. [Only Registered Users Can See Links. We’ve only given superhits, so we have no reason to have problems. Did the controversy create bad vibes with Salman Khan? No. I’ve known Salman for quite some time now, and he’s been very supportive. I’m not going to change my opinion about him on the basis of an article. I admit I was very angry when the story hit the stands, but I decided to keep my judgement on hold till the forensic results came out. What’s the point of hanging someone before the judgement is out. Ness’ mother Maureen Wadia recently said that she’s delighted with you. Comment. People are making a big deal about it. It’s great that she said that. She’s amazing too. Any plans to settle down? No. Everything has a time and place. Do you still maintain that one fine day you’ll quit acting? Definitely. I can’t be doing the same thing all my life. I’m sure there are other things that need me. Three things you want to do when you quit? I want to build an exceptional school with a focus on the highest quality of sports. It’ll be for underprivileged kids who will be brought up as Indians and not on the basis of their religion. I want to win a lottery and just chill. I also want to be on the traffic board panel and give my suggestions on better traffic management. Ness, in one word? The best. Oops, that’s two words. But that’s the truth, so go ahead and print it. Ness is Important to Me! [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here to Register, Or Login in the login box above.] How was your experience working with Karan Johar in Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna? Fantastic! He is amazing with female actors, and extremely particular about the shots. His acute sense of detailing and the way he projects women is something others should learn from. You are known for your upfront and frank nature. Then why did you keep quiet when the Salman Khan tape controversy broke out? I was waiting for the truth to unfold. Now that the truth has been revealed I refuse to stay quiet. I have slapped a law suit on the tabloid that published my name in the transcript without cross checking the facts. Did your equation with Salman change after the news? I have worked with Salman in three films and currently we are working together in Sajid Nadiadwala's Jaaneman. I know what he feels towards me and don't care a damn about what people have to say. How important is Ness in your life? It's too personal and I avoid answering such questions. Ness is very important to me. And if your headline reads – ‘Ness is very important to me’, I'll kill you.(laughs) You play Hrithik's mother in Krrish. Is it fair that you get to play the mother's role, while the hero gets to play both father and son? I agree to what you are saying, but thankfully Rakesh sir spared me from putting grey streaks in my hair. Why are you doing a typical potboiler – Jaaneman? Because they really need me to boil the pot! (laughs)

Rep Power: 554 | InTeRvIeW : RaNi [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here to Register, Or Login in the login box above.]You don’t have to see her. Just listen to her husky voice and you will be healed. And this girl is Rani Mukherjee, the rani of Bollywood. She is undoubtedly the most successful actress in Indian cinema today. She has many blockbusters under her belt and her latest film ‘Black’ has earned her accolades from all quarters besides fetching her awards. Her love life has been a mystery till now though she has been linked with the likes of Abhishek Bachchan. Read on to know more about her. Excerpts from the Interview: Are you scared of expectations? I don’t set targets, and so, there are no expectations. This may sound unoriginal but there are certain things in life that go this way. How do awards mean to you? As an actor, I need something to boost my ego and awards do a world of good to my confidence. Awards also tell you that you are on the right track. I some times make surprise visit to theatres to see first hand reaction of the audience to assess my acting. How was it working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in ‘Black’? It was a learning experience. You know, I was such a raw when Sanjay made ‘Black’. He molded be to the perfection. I genuinely feel every one of us who won awards for ‘Black’ should give the credit to him. Is it true that you have a great rapport with Sanjay? Yes, we understand each other pretty well. He loves cholar dal, begun bhaja, chingri maccher malai curry and luchi. So, I give him these delicacies whenever he visits me. On the other hand, his mom prepares dhokla for me when I visit him. You seem to share great chemistry with Abhishek and you have been chosen Filmfare Jodi No 1 this year for ‘Bunty Aur Babli’. Comment. Amitji and Hemaji got the award last year for ‘Baghbaan’ and we got it this year. It will go to someone else next year. So, there is nothing special or secret burning within. A magazine has recently written that you have an affair with Aditya Chopra. Is it true? It’s nothing but rubbish. Aditya and his wife Payal are close to me. In fact, we are like a family. Anyway, I live my life following my own ideologies. There are certain things that can never have a place in my life. I won’t let unnecessary stress to enter my life. Most of the filmmakers repeat you in their next films but Mani Ratnam is not considering you in his next film with Abhishek. What must be the reason? Mani Ratnam belongs to different genre of directors. The fact is that directors like him don’t sign just an actor but a character. What are your forthcoming films? I have signed Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next film titled ‘Sanwariya’. I also have another film titled ‘Babul’ for Ravi Chopra. I have seen his earlier film ‘Baghbaan’ and it’s good. Are you going to do any Hollywood film? I am completely into Bollywood films at the moment and I just can’t handle anymore workload. Mira Nair had approached me for ‘Namesake’ but I have no time to do it. I have already given my dates to Karan Johar. So, there is no more place for ‘Namesake’.

Rep Power: 295 | RaNi MuKhErJi!!! ~(¨`v´¨)~ Rani Mukherji [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here to Register, Or Login in the login box above.] Rani Mukherjee has rubbished rumours of differences with Preity Zinta, her "Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna" co-star. "Preity is a lovely co-star. All our films together have worked. She keeps joking that she'll put me in her wedding picture to ensure her marriage would be a super hit," says Rani, who co-starred earlier with Preity in "Veer-Zaara". "People just want to create differences between us. Why should two actresses always have problems between them? Rani told in an interview. "When Ness Wadia (Preity's boyfriend) came to New York he was bewildered about the rumours that Preity and I don't get along. We were so comfortable together. We aren't kids to be fighting. And with Karan Johar being the most affable director around there can be no ill will on the sets (of 'Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna'). Rani loved her long stint in New York. "I enjoyed being away from Mumbai. I'd shoot, then crash out in the hotel. I went for long walks, shopping, to church... I loved being by myself. I was the only actor who was in New York for the entire three months while other members of the cast came and went." [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here to Register, Or Login in the login box above.] Rani has bought a new house for herself in Juhu. "It will take at least a year to be completed," she said.About the awards, why does Rani always wear a sari to them? "For some reason I'm very comfortable in them. Everyone says I should not dress up like that. But my fans on the e-mail seem to love my saris. So why shouldn't I?" Rani had a ball shooting with Preity for Karan Johar's film. Back home, Rani is looking forward to being an aunt. "My bhaiyya and bhabhi are expecting their first child. And that's the biggest excitement in my life right now. I'm dying for the baby to come... Till I don't have my own I'll pamper my brother's baby." Love is not around the corner for Rani. Right now I'm too much into my working space. "I'm very happy with life. Last year my dad was unwell. That has passed. This year, the entire family is looking forward to the baby's birth. I suspect I'll be a slave to the baby. The family will finally stop babying me." Click Here to Register, Or Login in the login box above.] Excerpts from an interview by TWF correspondent Vickey Lalwani Q: Wat made u sign 'Teesri Aankh'? A: It's not every day that u get interesting characters to portray in an acting career.'Teesri Aankh' was a suspense thriller, in which I played a mute who witnesses a murder. I love thrillers. Q: Was it tough to play mute? A: I prepared to portray a mute by learning sign language, which is not easy. My sign language teacher was Sangeeta, the same person who taught Rani Mukerji for 'Black'. Q: You worked with Sunny after a long time? A: Sunny is professional as ever. But one thing I must say is that he's only getting better with age. Working with Sunny is a great learning experience. Q: You have also worked with Bobby? A: Right. Bobby is a fantastic co-star to work with. I worked with him in Humraaz & 'Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai'. Q: You have just returned from London, shooting for 'Aap Ki Khatir'? A: It was such a lovely experience shooting in old mansions. It was freezin der & Priyanka C, Dino M, Sunil S. all had a blast. I love the cold season. Now, I'm leaving for Goa for 'Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd'. In Goa, it is going to be hot. I hate summers. Q: You have been travelling quite a bit that means? A: It's really hectic, but frankly speaking I'm enjoying it. I'm a workaholic & the more I work, the better I feel.'m still young enough to work round-the-clock. I think I have the rest of my life to take it easy. Q: You have also lost some weight? A: Yes. I am getting lots of compliments for my looks today. But losing weight is not just for glamour but to feel fresh and glow all the time. When I am in Mumbai, I go to the gym two to three times a week for my work-out.

Rep Power: 295 | Re: InTeRvIeWz!!! ~(¨`v´¨)~ Madhuri Dixit [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here to Register, Or Login in the login box above.]Madhuri Dixit, now holidaying in Mumbai, says she reminisces about her years in the film industry but doesn't miss the hustle and bustle of Bollywood. The actress, who shifted to the US after marrying an NRI doctor, told in an interview: 'I miss my craft, the preparation for scenes, the nervousness before every shot and all that dhak-dhak.' Excerpts: After the kind of response you got for your dance number at the Filmfare Awards, are you planning to return to films? Yes, probably I will do one film a year. There are lots of offers. It has to be a project, which is convenient to both producer n me in terms of location. Looking after my home & kids, I can still take time off for one movie. But it would be tough for me to come down here for the shooting. We must remember that a lot of movies from Bollywood are made in the US. It would be difficult for the producers in Mumbai to reach you in LA? The world is becoming such a small place. People sitting in Hong Kong do business with people in India. So communication is not a problem.
