Re: petrol price hike...!

yeah bahut mehenga ho gya hai.. thats so right...

but yaar this is happening globally and not just in India.. and i guess Indian govt cant do anything about it as rates of petrol per barrel have increased so much and each & every country has to increase the price of petrol..

but i think India is still abit lucky as govt, still gives some subsidy on petrol & diesel products but in other countries, govt. cnt even think of giving subsidies...

Hehe when i was in my 10th class & when i started driving bajaj chetak scooter, petrol was Rs 10/litre...that was so good...

Re: petrol price hike...!

As far as I know there is no subsidy on petrol by Indian government. All petrol pump owners and companies pay heavy tax on petrol to government.

There was subsidy on LPG used for household works. I think there also subsidy is reduced.

Re: petrol price hike...!

There's a subsidy on diesel and diesel products... and if we consider the price of diesel in India and Australia (or other countries), we can see the difference. I think there's a definitely a subsidy.. but i am not sure...

and yeah on LPG there's definitely a subsidy, they are planning to remove it and they have removed a bit of subsidy, but they cant remove it completely
as then it will be too costly...

Dnt know about petrol, but i think there used to be subsidy on petrol & petroleum products too, now i dont know what had happened in past 2 years...

Re: petrol price hike...!

ONGC subsidy bill rises 300% to Rs28.76bn 7/15/2005 8:37:29 PM IST [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here to Register, Or Login in the login box above.]
Oil and Natural Gas [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here to Register, Or Login in the login box above.] (ONGC), GAIL and Oil India will pay Rs32.46bn to oil [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here to Register, Or Login in the login box above.] firms to partly cover losses they incurred in April-June on selling petrol, diesel, LPG and kerosene below cost.

ONGC will pay Rs28.76bn, GAIL Rs1.5bn and Oil India Rs2.2bn to cover one-third of about Rs98bn revenue loss Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) suffered on selling fuel in the first quarter of the current fiscal, a senior official said.

Out of the Rs32.46bn contribution by upstream firms, IOC would get around Rs16.25bn while BPCL and HPCL would get about Rs8.1bn each. ONGC's share in the informal subsidy sharing arrangement has risen more than 300% from Rs9.4bn in the first quarter of 2004-05 to Rs28.76bn this year.
ONGC had paid a subsidy of Rs41.04bn in FY05, up 53% from Rs26.9bn paid in 2003-04. This had pulled down the net profit of the firm by Rs25.53bn to Rs129.83bn.

Huge subsidies !!!!

Re: petrol price hike...!

do you mean to say these companies are making loss by paying from their pockets. If this is the case then how come these companies are counted in Navratan companies of India.............these companies are profitable companies for Govt. of India.

Per litre petrol sale, government gets Rs 20.43 as tax in different forms. If out of that money, government is giving susidy of 2 Rs, then thats not a big deal.

Rightly said not actually losss, Govt. is earning from taxes... Govt. is purchasing petrol @ more than Rs. 50/- per ltr. (more than that) ... tax inclusive... but we are getting it now at Rs. 43 p/L.. i.e. the Govt. is paying that 7 Rs. or more from their own pocket.. to the nation from where they are purchasing the petrol...

Same is the case with LPG cylinder which is now Rs. 300/- but Govt. is paying app. Rs 500/-..... this the subsidy given to us..
