Thumbs Up ~~ Self-Assessment Exercise ~~

Points for a self-assessment exercise

* Start with first looking at yourself in a mirror. True – it is the face you see every day – but look carefully and not mechanically at least once in a while. Do you like what you see? Do you look good? Does your dress sense satisfy you? Does the person you see in the mirror look happy and contented? Get your answers to these questions. Write them down in a little book. Is there anything you would like to change? Once you make a note of this, remember to immediately set yourself goals – achievable ones - and go about it in a systematic way.

* Your family – absolutely the most important aspect of your life. It’s the people you love most in the world after all! Sometimes they may drive you to distraction with their demands on your time, but then, what would you do without them? Wherever your life or career may take you, your family is the one constant thing in your existence. Just as you will always be there for them. And ‘family’ also encompasses the extended family too – in-laws, relatives by marriage and so on. We have but one life. Make it matter. If you can touch the lives of your family wherever they are, connect with them, you will feel a sense of worth. Make your life worthwhile.

* What about those other very important people in your life – your dear friends? These are people who understand you perfectly – even more probably than you can understand yourself. With whom you can converse freely about anything under the sun. No inhibitions whatsoever. Whose shoulders you can lean on in troubled times, who bring you back to earth with a thud whenever you get carried away. It could be one or more friends to whom you are very close. Have you bothered to keep in touch with them of late or have you simply taken them for granted? Have you forgotten them in your rushed life? Time then to refresh your memories. Contact them – in today’s global village, they are but a click away.

* What about the wonder that is life? Do you have time to appreciate and enjoy your environment? Do you see beauty in nature? Are you aware that this kind of enjoyment of your surroundings can prove to have a total healing effect on you? Pay attention to your home. In what ways can you improve your surroundings? Change the interiors or redo your garden – it will give you a real high. Let your good taste speak for itself. Bask in the compliments you get!

* Are you satisfied with your life? Have you achieved all the goals you had set yourself? Do you feel you should have done something differently? Maybe a career option you have ignored? It’s time then to take stock of whatever you have done and become aware of your special skills and talent. A little honest appraisal will do you good. There is always scope for improvement, whether it is in your home or your work. Stop stagnating and begin to move forward. Time to reinvent yourself and become confident. Regain your self esteem.

With this small exercise of self assessment done on a regular basis, you will only move forward in your life as you will find that you have fewer regrets and unfulfilled desires. You will be able to see a happy, cheerful person smiling back at you from the mirror.
