Metro - Movie Stills: Life In A... Metro - First Look: Life In A... Metro - Movie Wallpaper: Life In A... Metro - Metro to have a 3 continent premiere An actor of great aplomb and tremendous talent, Kay Kay Menon has finally managed to change the face of Bollywood filmy acting to Hollywood method acting. Blame it on his pure creative streak or raw sensibilities, Kay Kay today has earned himself a line of ardent admirers including likes of Anurag Kashyap to Pritish Nandy. After having performed a gamut of diverse characters in films like Black Friday and Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd we will now get to watch this brilliant actor in another of his captivating roles in Metro. IndiaFM gets in an exclusive conversation mode with the actor about Metro and his upcoming projects Metro looks like a character-driven film. How much does your character drive the film? The main protagonist of this film is the city itself. City is made by human beings. You have number of characters in the film which represent various strata, various statuses, and various mindset of the city life. So I'm one of them. And like every other character he is in search of happiness, in search of a comfort zone. Everybody in city life tends to find some peace within the chaos and that's what this character is enduring to do. It's an ensemble cast… How did you react when you heard the story? I know Anurag Basu for some time. We have worked together in television. Also the story and the characters in this film seemed very interesting. Since I have worked with him earlier I know his way of functioning as well. So here was the chance for us to get together and do something interesting. You have an extra martial affair with Kangna? Yes, it is not simplistic as that but it does amount to that. It is more of developing your own philosophy in life and then trying to implement it so that you are in a comfort zone. And you have a little moments of joy which you think is joy. Shilpa Shetty finds you more appealing than Shiney Ahuja… I don't think she means anything negative about Shiney. It should be seen in the right context. I think she was talking more about the approach to performance than the person himself. It has been sort of distorted and is being put across as one person versus the other. There have been several films centered around Mumbai city. How is this one different? I have not seen any of those films but all I can say is that it deals with the soul of Bombay. It deals with the trials and tribulations of relationships. It deals with various factors that contribute to making a Metro a Metro. Your character is under debt, emotional drainage…Something that people can relate with… These are all aspects of city life. This is just one of the aspects, there are numerous such things you and me would know better. I mean every human being in a city life goes through trying to pay there debts. That is the one aspect of the film but that is not the only aspect there are many aspects. In the promos Sharman says… Yeh Shahar Raas Nahin Aaya…. There are different individuals with different attitudes from different strata who have their own take on the city and how to live in the city. Some people go back disillusioned, some people stay back. Some people find their own little niche in which they can be happy. That's what the film is all about. Life in a Metro is an English title… No I don't think. People are not so unintelligent nowadays. They will see the faces on the screen and they will understand what it is. Do you think this hype around Shilpa will give a boost to the film? In India I am sure it will be on merit and it will be deeming to Shilpa if you say that you are going to see the film because she was the winner of Big Brother. She has done a wonderful job in the film and people should come and watch the film for that reason alone. As far as abroad is concerned yes obviously now she is a known name so people would be intrigued to see her work which is a good vehicle. How was the experience of working with her before and after Big Brother? It's been the same thing. She has been laughing throughout. She has been great fun to be working with. We used to improvise, we used to have fun. On the sets there was no pathos that we are going to improvise the scene. It wasn't a big deal. We used to have fun and we used to do our stuff. Shilpa Shetty has been the same before and after Big Brother. She has been laughing throughout Music is not the usual Pritam stuff… I liked the first number Hai Tujhe Ijazzat Karle Tu Muhobaat which has got a very nice semi Karanatak feel which is very good. You've worked with Anurag in TV… How much of a transition do you see in him? Obviously as years pass by you hone your skills. Anurag has done the same. But his working culture remains the same. I mean there has been a lot of improvisation on the sets. He has tried to take the script to a different level. So all these things were happening the way he used to do earlier. The ethos remains the same but the skills have sharpened a lot. How was the star cast to work with? All of them were absolutely great fun to work with. Irrfan and Konkana were excellent in their own right. The rest of the cast was absolutely wonderful to work with. What is the appeal factor in Metro? It has got an earnest value to the film. It has got something that would stir something in you. So it's a good emotional product. It has varied emotions, it has varied stance and it has varied angels at which you look at life in a Metro. So there are many factors which are quite intriguing and interesting to watch. What do you find more fascinating - commercial success of a Honeymoon or critical appraisal of Black Friday? While I am functioning in a film it matters a lot to me. After that I just leave it to destiny. I seriously believe that destiny has a way of equating a balance sheet. Black Friday was supposed to be released two years back and it released in the same month when Honeymoon released. So whatever was lost there has been balanced out here with profit of course. You have to trust destiny and just do your work properly and then don't bother about what could happen. It never happens then. What are your future plans? I am finishing a film called BBD by a filmmaker from Kolkata called Anjan Dutt. I am doing a film called Drona which is a Goldie Behl's film. Then there is a film called Via Darjeeling. And finally Anurag Kashyap's Gulaal. How do you react to industry's acceptance of Anurag Kashyap? It's high time that he is accepted for his genius. I think it is stupid on anybody's part not to accept him. I think it would be the industry's loss if that would happen. Thankfully it's not the case now. People have seen his work, people know that he has solid metal in terms of a filmmaker and he is truly international. You can't deny the fact. What is the best compliment you have got for Black Friday? I quite liked people liking the film. Because after a point of appreciation you like it and you appreciate it and you do the humble best to accept it. You are a regular at the Prithvi Theatre… Regular whenever I have a time. Now it's very difficult for me to find time. Theatre for me was a very different phase of my life and it's always there somewhere. I mean I might just do a play sometime. Who has been your role model? I don't have idols. I just worship god. |
