The Application Form for Ph.D/M.S. (By Research) Degree Programmes are to be downloaded from the above webstie. The filled in aplications shall be submitted to The Director, Centre for Research, Anna University Chennai, Chennai-25 along with a DD of Rs.600/- for General and Rs.300/- for Tamil Nadu SC/ST Candidates obtained from any nationalized bank drawn in favour of "The Director (Research), Anna University" payable at Chennai.

The Last Date for issue and receipt of the completed Application will be on 15-11-2008 at 5.45 PM.


NOTE:
(i) The candidates working in the Affiliated Engineering Colleges situated in the districts of Chennai, Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur, Vellore, Thiruvannamalai and Villupuram are only eligible to apply under part time category. For further details refer the above website.
(ii) UGC Fellowships are available in certain University Departments for Full Time Scholars.

Candidates who satisfy the general eligibility criteria and the educational qualification shown below are eligible to apply for Ph.D. Programme.

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY
1 Master's Degree of this University or any other qualification recognized as equivalent thereto in the fields of study notified from time to time by this University. Specific Educational Qualifications are given in Clause 2.
2 Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Technology of this University or any other qualification recognized as equivalent thereto in the fields of study with a minimum of 15 Years of R & D Experience in National research laboratories / Public sector undertakings and with minimum of three publications in referred journals / two patents in the last five years.
3 A minimum of 55% percent marks/CGPA of 5.5 on a 10 point scale in the qualifying examination (50 percent marks or CGPA of 5.0 on a 10 point scale, in case of SC/ST candidates).
For M.A (English) Degree holders including SC/ST applicants a minimum of 50 percent marks is necessary.
4 The Clause 1.3 does not apply if the qualifying degree is M.S (By Research) of this University or recognized as equivalent.



EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

PROGRAMME -- QUALIFICATION FOR ADMISSION
(i) Ph.D. Degree in Engineering/ Technology
M.E/M.Tech. or M.S. (By Research) in the relevant branch of Engineering or Technology.

(ii) Ph.D. Degree in Science and Humanities.
M.Sc./M.A.(English)/M.S. (By Research) in the relevant branch of Science and Humanities / M.C.A

(iii) Ph.D. Degree in Management Studies.
MBA / Post Graduate diploma in Business Management or Administration awarded by Indian Institute of Managements (IIMs) / M.S (By Research) in Management Studies.

(iv) Ph.D. Degree in Architecture and Planning
M.Arch./M.Plan / M.S.(By Research) in Architecture and Planning



Ph.D. PROGRAMMES
Candidates who satisfy the eligibility criteria as in Clause 1 & 2 are eligible to apply for Ph.D. Programme.

Full-time Ph.D Programme:
1 Candidates under Full time shall do research work in this University and shall be available during the total working hours for curricular, co-curricular and related activities.
2 Candidates in employment, who want to pursue Full-time studies should be sponsored by their employer & should avail leave for the research period and should get formally relieved from their duty to join the research programme.
3 Candidates who are sponsored by the AICTE under Quality Improvement Programme for Teachers of Engineering Colleges who satisfy the eligibility conditions shall be eligible for Full time only, in the disciplines as notified in AICTE guidelines.
4 Candidates who are selected in Fellowship programmes of National or any recognized bodies and who satisfy the eligibility conditions as per the regulations are eligible for full time studies in the respective disciplines.
5 Foreign nationals sponsored by Government of India on any exchange programme and who satisfy the eligibility conditions as per the regulations, are eligible for Full time study.


Part Time Ph.D Programme
The following categories of candidates are eligible to apply for part-time programme.
1 Full-time teachers of the constituent Colleges/Colleges affiliated to this University as in Annexure IV.(refer the link 'Information to the candidates for Ph.D')
2 Candidates working in the projects undertaken from State/Central/ Quasi Government and totally funded through the projects in the constituent colleges/affiliated colleges of this University. The Principal Co-ordinator of such projects shall be a recognized supervisor of this University and the candidate shall register for Research programme under such supervisor only. The candidate should be employed in the project for the minimum period of the research programme (clause 5). Part employments in different spells or in different projects are not permitted. The department where the project is undertaken should be a recognized research centre of this University.
3 Candidates working in Industrial units or R & D Departments/Labs/Units of Government/Quasi Government or any other research laboratories which are recognized by the university to have collaborative research with the University and sponsored by the respective employer/Organization.


MODE OF SELECTION
Selection to the research programme will be based on the performance in the test and interview.


REGISTRATION FEE
Applications with Registration fee Rs.600/- for General Category & Rs.300/- for Tamil Nadu SC/ST candidates in the form of demand draft drawn in favour of The Director (Research), Anna University, Chennai – 25. Payable at Chennai - 25 (on or after 01.11.2008) from any nationalized bank.




M.S (By Research) PROGRAMME

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY
1 Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / M.Sc in Science of this University or any other qualification recognized as equivalent thereto in the fields of study notified from time to time by this University. Specific Educational Qualifications are given in Clause

DOCUMENTS TO BE ENCLOSED WITH THE APPLICATION
1 Xerox copies of certificates for proof of qualification, age and community of the applicant duly attested.
2 Xerox copies of curriculum, mark sheets, certificate from the institution regarding mode of conduct of classes and evaluation, syllabus of courses undertaken, in the case of candidates awarded degree other than the universities listed in Annexure III. (One more copy should sent directly to “The Director (Academic Courses), Anna University for obtaining Course Equivalency)
3 Xerox copy of appointment order / copy of project appointment order
4 A brief one page write up on the Research topic chosen.
5 Four self-addressed covers stamped to the value of Rs.10/-(Rupees ten only) each. Note: ST & SC candidates should produce the original community certificate at the time of admission for claiming any concession.

SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS
Completed application form and data sheet (with all enclosures securely stitched to it) should be sent to “The Director, Centre for Research, Anna University - Chennai, Chennai – 25 so as to reach on or before 15.11.2008 at 05.45 p.m along with a demand draft drawn in favour of “The DIRECTOR (RESEARCH), ANNA UNIVERSITY” payable at Chennai - 25 for Rs.600/- (Rupees Six hundred only) for general category or for Rs.300/- (Rupees three hundred only) for Tamil Nadu SC/ST Candidates for processing the application.

The application fee is non-refundable Application received after the due date or without due demand draft will be summarily rejected.

Hostel Accommodation is not available.

NOTE:
1. ANY APPLICATION INCOMPLETE IN NATURE WITH REGARD TO THE DOCUMENTS MENTIONED UNDER COLUMN 8.0 WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED AND NO CORRESPONDENCE WILL BE MADE TO GET THE INSUFFICENT DETAILS OF THE APPLICATION.
2. CANDIDATES SEEKING ADMISSION UNDER PART-TIME FROM THE ORGANIZATIONS/ INDUSTRIES WHICH ARE NOT RECOGNIZED AS RESEARCH CENTRES OF THIS UNIVERSITY WILL BE REJECTED AND NO FURTHER CORRESPONDENCE WILL BE ENTERTAINED.
3. THE ADMISSION FOR CANDIDATES WHO COME UNDER CLAUSE 8.2 WILL BE SUBJECTED TO APPROVAL OF COURSE EQUIVALENCY ISSUED BY “THE DIRECTOR (ACADEMIC COURSE)”, ANNA UNIVERSITY - CHENNAI.
4. THE APPLICATION SUBMITTED WITHOUT THE CONSENT OF THE SUPERVISOR WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR ADMISSION.
